we had about 37 little boys during boys camp. it was a very interesting week. different from girls camp but it was a good week. it was Bible Boot Camp and the boys had a lot of fun with it. Cierra taught the Bible study every morning from 9:30-11:30 and a few mornings me and Rebecca helped her because it was just her and about 10 little boys. one of the groups was a handful too. but it was a lot of fun. i definitely want little boys when i have kids. we kindof wandered around during free time each day and i got to pal around with some of the cutest little boys i've ever met. i wasn't sure how involved we were allowed to be during boys camp at first but i'm glad we got to hang out with them because it was a lot of fun.

one of the little boys was autistic. someone was with him at all times and he seemed to really enjoy his week at camp and it was nice because his mom is a single mom raising 5 kids with one being autistic. so three of her kids were here during boys camp so you know she had a relaxing week as well. that's what this camp is all about.

all of the camps that we do (minus one) are done for now and so we have self service teams and them camps that we aren't really involved in for a few weeks.

a self service team just left last night and now we've got a few days off until Thursday when another group comes in. it's called casting for recovery and it's breast cancer survivors that are fly fishing for therapy and recovery. all we'll be doing is cooking and cleaning for them. then next week is camp hope which we aren't really involved with we just cook and clean for them as well. but it's a camp for kids that have been taken out of their home. after that i think a team is coming in to help build some things around the camp but i'm not really sure. then the last week of July will be JAM camp (Jesus-Arts-Music) and a lot of kids from youth camp will be back for that camp so i'm excited to see them again! also, Bart (one of the guys from Georgia) is thinking about coming back up during that week so that'd be really cool if he can.

Also, 4 summer missionaries that are helping a guy named Gary this summer do VBS around Alaska are going to be here running JAM camp. they were here to help us out last week during boys camp, they're a lot of fun.

after JAM camp i think we have another self service team, then the second week of August is Grace Works camp and then the summer is over. time is going by way too quickly here but it's been so much fun and such a blessing so far!

the past 16 days have been a whirlwind!

June 13-17 was youth camp. there wasn't a mission team per se that came to do that week. there was a couple from Georgia that came to be the mom & dad of the week and 3 college guys also from Georgia that came to help out. so all of us summer missionaries got to be in cabins and help out with the camp. it was probably my favorite week thus far. the group of campers were just super wonderful and the team was as well.
there was one girl in particular in my cabin, Emma, that i got to talk with about what baptism means and just kindof what it means to be saved and everything. she was sprinkled as a baby and just had a lot of questions so it was a really neat moment.
also some of the youth that got saved or rededicated during the week got baptized in the lake on the last day and that was super neat to witness.
the team we had during youth camp was just really amazing. the "mom & dad" were Todd and Terri and they were just really really awesome folks. Terri actually stayed in the same cabin that Rebecca and i did and we had some good times.
the three guys, Colby, Mason, and Bart, were just all around awesome guys. they're all college age but super mature and just Godly servants. it was such a blessing to have them here and get to hang out with them. it's really encouraging to me that men like that exist in my generation.

two of the guys from Georgia, Mason & Colby, decided to stay another week because they loved it so much up here and felt like God wanted them to stay.

June 20-24 was girls camp with 44 little girls. we stayed in cabins again and also did our normal jobs for the most part so it was kinda like doing double duty. it was pretty exhausting because these were 1st-6th grade girls so they were younger and you had to really keep your eye on them, but it was a wonderful week. the first night all of the girls in our cabin volunteered to pray so we went around the room and everyone prayed and it was such a sweet moment. our devotion times were my favorite part of the whole week. those girls were young but they had an awesome grasp of the gospel and their prayers were just super sweet. some of our girls wrote us goodbye notes and it was really sweet. i think 10 girls got saved during the week and about 3 rededicated.

Colby and Mason left today and it was really hard to see them go. but we're moseying on forward, boys camp starts tomorrow. there's gonna be around 40-50 little boys here all week doing "boot camp" so should be interesting :)

first camp done.

so today after lunch we said goodbye to our first group of campers. they were probably the best group of campers ever! they were the politest kids i've ever met. the first week of camp went by way too fast though, this summer is gonna be over before i know it. yesterday i got to hang out with Alyssa a fair amount which was nice. she made a cross during craft time and gave it to me with a little note on the back. it was so sweet.

after night worship, Tyler (one of the campers that got saved this week) shared his story and said this was the best week of his life. i got to talk to him for a little bit after and it was really encouraging. seeing these kids lives changed and talking with them this week has just been amazing. one of the little girls, Hannah, gave people nicknames that all had "ed" in them because she was Fred. I got named Sped. anyways, she trusted in the Lord earlier this week, then her friend got a call that her uncle had been found dead and she jumped right in and ministered to her friend all night. the friend decided to stay and had a smile on her face the next day. that was really cool to see. so Hannah was crying really hard after worship night last night and i asked her what was wrong and she said she missed her mom (who had died when she was 9)... and that was a really tough moment. i brought her to Shane once she kinda composed herself and he just encouraged her about how God was using that and her in her friend's life when dealing with the death of her uncle... so that was really neat to hear.

also we paired up and told a camper our story last night during worship night too. i was paired with a girl named April. she said she wasn't saved but listened to me talk and then i asked her a few questions and she answered and would smile. she was really sweet. she said she wanted to start going to church so i told Shane so he could connect her w/ the church in Anchorage that he's connected with. during the invitation that night she raised her hand and went back and talked to someone, so that was really cool.

we had s'mores for snack after worship and then mr. Walter brought out the smoked salmon. i tried it with some cheese and crackers and it was pretty good.

the camp is really quiet now because all of the campers are gone & we're all worn out. Sherry & Walter have gone to the airport to pick up some of the team that's leading youth camp this coming week. youth camp only has about 6 people coming in to lead so we're gonna be involved more in the leadership as well as our normal jobs we have, and we may even be cabin counselors... so it's gonna be a busy busy week!

Alyssa (next to me) & Hannah (one of the staff's daughter at camp)

this week of camp has been so busy but awesome things are happening in some of these kids hearts and it's been so rewarding just to see God move in them. the natives here are a hard group to get in good with because they don't really trust the white people that much. however, the Oklahoma team that is leading this week's camp, the leader of the team has been coming to Alaska for 5 years and involved with First Native Church up here so i think that may be why some of these kids are opening up.

two days ago during nighttime worship Shane (the leader of the OK team) asked us all to break up in pairs and share our story with each other if we were saved. so me & Alyssa paired up and she shared with me that she had "said the prayer" at 6 years old, but she didn't say much more. then last night we broke up into pairs again and prayed with each other. so she asked me to be her pair again and i asked her how i could pray for her this week and she told me that she wanted to learn more about Jesus and God (she always says Jesus and God together instead of just one name:) and that she wanted me to pray for her to read her Bible at home everyday. so i prayed for her and then she prayed for me. it was the sweetest experience i've probably ever had in my life.

so at the end of the service Shane gave an invitation and asked them to walk to the back of the room and go with someone to talk... and Alyssa got up and went. she talked to one of the OK team and then i got to talk with her afterwards. she told me over and over that she was just so excited. she said she felt like she should've raised her hand the night before but she didn't... so she did tonight cause she still felt like she should. she also said that even though she prayed at 6, this was the first time she felt it (the prompting of the Spirit).

she also shared with me that during her quiet time that morning, they were to read John 6:1-15 (the story of feeding of the 5,000) and she just wanted to keep reading, she didn't want to stop, but she didn't have enough time during the time allotted for quiet time. so we finished reading that chapter together and talked about it. then she told me she wanted to tell Shane... so we went to Shane and she said she was afraid to tell him because she was shy... but i encouraged her to tell him so she finally did and she just had this huge smile on her face the entire time, it was so sweet.

they also have encouragement bags out for all of the kids so i wrote her a little note and stuck it in there. so when we were talking she told me she liked my note and that she had a facebook and we should be friends on there.

just seeing the smile and excitement and enthusiasm in Alyssa's eyes, just reminded me of when Jesus talks about being humble like a child, and shed so much light on it.

Matthew 18:1-4
At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, "who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" and calling to Him a child, He put him in the midst of them and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

so please just pray for these kids that have trusted in Christ (a few of the ones i know are Alyssa, Hannah, and Billy) this week and also for a little girl here named Cora. she is from a village of about 500 people and she got a call from her mom last night saying they found her uncle frozen to death on the ice. and even though her mom was super upset at the time of the call she did ask for us to remember their family in prayer. Cora has decided to stay until the camp is over, but you can see how devastated she is in her eyes, so please pray for their family and village.

first day of camp.

The mission team that is leading this week's Native Youth Camp is from Oklahoma. They got to Anchorage last Thursday and have been at First Native for a few days until coming here last night. They brought a few kids with them that didn't have another way to get here. We all introduced ourselves and went over some rules then just had a rather chill night. Me, Rebecca, Will, and Thomas went out to the ballfield and played some horse, then volleyball, and then softball. I ran back to our cabin before softball to grab something & one of the native girls was playing on the swingset outside our cabin. I said hey to her and asked her if she was having fun and she said no. So i asked her if she wanted to play softball with us and she said she would love to. So i told her that we were about to play over at the field if she wanted to head over there and i would be there right after, but she said she'd wait on me to go over there. so we went over there and we taught her the basics cause she had never played before & it was a lot of fun. then she started telling us all of these jokes she knew, which i used to tell jokes all the time when i was a kid, so it was fun hearing them. one time she hit the ball well and i told her that she rocked and her face just got eaten up by her smile and she said in the sweetest way "thank you Robyn" - that's probably gonna be my favorite moment of this entire summer.

today was our first real camp day. it was long and busy but good. this morning we got to the dining hall at 7:30am and did our jobs that we're assigned for breakfast. afterwards we cleaned the bathhouses and started on some weedeating. then we went back to the dining hall to do our jobs for lunch and ate lunch. after lunch we did some more weedeating and then got a shower and went back to the dining hall to do our jobs for dinner. one of my jobs was to serve drinks and Elizabeth helped me with it. she's lived here for 5 years so she knows how to do most everything and it was fun to just have that time to talk with her a little more. after dinner we cleaned the bathhouses again and they had their first night worship service. it was a lot of introductory stuff and playing games to meet people that we hadn't met yet. it was interesting and fun. afterwards kids were just playing out on the field so i was heading over there & Alyssa was outside my cabin again so she came over and played soccer with me, Thomas, Will, James, & Hannah. it was good having that time to hang out with Alyssa again since during the day i'm busy doing jobs & stuff. i hadn't seen too much of Hannah and James last week because they were catching a break in between school and camps starting, but i love them! when rec time was over and they had to go back to their cabins Alyssa was so cute when she said goodnight! i hope i get to spend more time with her over the week, she's such a sweet girl!

Thursday we went out to the Iditarod Museum and got to see some of the Iditarod dogs and the puppies that are in training. The puppies are super new and they were really cute, it was a lot of fun.

Yesterday we did a lot of cleaning and getting the camp ready. The Native Youth Camp starts on Monday. We're not sure yet how many students will be coming, but i'm excited for them to get here. Just praying that we will have the strength and energy to adjust to the first week of camp and that our hearts are prepared, as well as the mission team coming to lead the camp and the campers themselves.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

today we had a tutorial on how to weedeat, but it's been raining so we didn't actually weedeat today. we moved a lot of firewood and stacked it in the shed. then we took a walmart run. i'm glad we did because my hair straightener quit working yesterday so i got another one. i also found a few aisles of souvenir stuff so i got some really cute things for some people.

after walmart we went to a thrift store and i got 5 shirts and a jacket for $5.25! i was so excited! i got a few long sleeve shirts cause i needed them, but i got some Alaskan fishing shirts and just really neat stuff. and i found a dunder mifflin shirt! and the jacket i got is a Wasilla Warriors basketball warmup jacket.... i love it!

thus far we've only been doing about half day of work but next monday our first camp starts and it's gonna be super long hours. normally we'll be in the kitchen around 7:30 to get started in the morning, do devotion, clean around cabins and bathhouses, maybe do some outside work, serve lunch, do some outside work, maybe have an hour or two break, serve dinner and clean up the dining hall and be done around 8 or 9 some nights. so it'll be long hours.

mountains!

Saturday we went to a little town called Talkeetna. It’s a little hippie town and it’s got a beach where you can see Mt. McKinley and the mountain range from. It was cloudy around the mountain so we couldn’t see all of it but we saw the peak of Mt. McKinley. We walked around the town for a little bit and did some shopping, it was a fun day trip.

Sunday we went to Big Lake Baptist with the camp directors. The people are really nice there, it’s about the size of Renewal Church that I go to back home. On the way to church we saw a moose roaming the woods on the road the camp is off of, so that was neat. When we got back we learned how to clean cabins and we cleaned some of those. Rebecca and I took a paddle boat out & explored some new lands! We’ve decided that we’re Tom and Huck.

Yesterday we did some more raking of leaves and sticks around the campgrounds. We did that for a while and it was very tiring so I think we all took naps afterwards. I think for the rest of the night we all just hung out. The days go by kinda fast here and everything blurs together, so half of the time I’m not even sure what day it is.

Today we cleaned a lot more cabins and learned how to do everything in the dish room and kitchen.

The first camp, Native Youth Camp, starts on Sunday so this week we have orientation and we’re just learning more about each other and how to do everything. It really does feel like a family here and Mrs. Sherry & Mr. Walter take good care of us. If I’m gonna be away from home for 3 months, this is the best place to be.

I’m sure once the camps start it’ll fly by super fast, so I’m enjoying all the sightseeing and fun stuff we’re getting to do at the beginning. We’re also doing devotions as a staff each morning, we did our first one today, that’ll probably be the best part of the day.

It’s still super crazy that we never run out of daylight. When we were in Talkeetna eating at this pizza place, they had a woman playing guitar and she started playing “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor, and I started thinking about the part that says “I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end” and how true that is here in Alaska! (during the summer at least!)

But I’ve definitely enjoyed all of the sunshine and the time to just rest in the Lord and catch up on some reading and everything! It’s so peaceful out here. (that is, until the campers come!)

action packed day!

So today we did some sightseeing. we went to Palmer, a little town nearby, and saw the river of the Matanuska glacier. picked up a rock around there that's a low grade of Jade. pretty neat. then we went to a little hippie-ish market and then the reindeer farm. got to feed some reindeer and moose. also while we were there a baby elk was born. we saw it 30 minutes after it was born, wobbling trying to walk. super cute.

we went on a little hiking expedition on the Butte.... 875 feet high... but super super steep! and part of it was rocks so it was truly mountain/rock climbing... but we did make it to the top! go us! it was a very beautiful view from there too! definitely an accomplishment! it was really fun but kinda strenuous.
we got back & had dinner... i tried a bite of rainbow trout that Thomas caught last night... it was pretty good... better than i was expecting. (i don't eat fish) then we played some soccer with the kids. Thomas is a beast of a soccer player and played with a goalie against the rest of us and won. but i did get some goals and steal the ball from him... so i'm proud:) i really miss soccer! it was fun though. after that, we went out on the lake. me, Rebecca, & Will were gonna get in the paddle boat but it wasn't liking us so much... so i got in a canoe with Thomas while he was fishing & Rebecca and Will were gonna get in the other Canoe but it tipped over on them so that was the end of that.

we were fishing for probably 1.5-2 hours. not much happening... until we got to the other side of the lake & Thomas caught a 20 inch rainbow trout... it was awesome... and as soon as he was pulling him out the bald eagle circled over us... so it was an interesting action packed few minutes.

random fact about Moose: they normally have twins. pretty neat.

tomorrow we're gonna do some sightseeing around where Mt. McKinley is... super excited!

home for the summer!

After almost 14 hours of flying & 3 different flights I finally got to Alaska! We flew over a mountain range on the way into Alaska and it was so beautiful. The mountains looked like someone just took a bunch of white paint & splattered it all over the mountains. The camp directors, Walter and Sherry, picked me up from the airport in Anchorage at around 4pm & we did some errands before getting to camp in Wasilla. We went to a feed store which was pretty neat and then to the Walmart.

We got to camp probably around 7pm or so. I got settled into my cabin that I’ll be sharing with 3 other girls this summer. The good thing about it though is that it has a bathroom inside the cabin. Since there’s 4 girls this year we got to stay in this one with the bathroom, normally they stay in a smaller cabin and use the bathhouse. One of the summer missionaries, Will, was already here when I arrived last night. Cierra, one of the girls in my cabin was here too, she’s worked here the last few summers and has been showing me around. Rebecca(my roommate) and Thomas (the other guy) are arriving tonight, and Jessica (who has also worked here before) is arriving sometime next week.

Sherry and Walter have a 17 year old son named Andy, and there is another family that lives here full time. They have three kids, Hannah (12), James(16), and Elizabeth(19). Everyone is super friendly and helpful. And they have such servant hearts!

Last night after dinner (& s’mores!) I got a shower and went straight to bed. I went to sleep probably around 11 and it was still light as day outside. I woke up this morning at 7 and it was light outside, so I haven’t seen dark yet and probably won’t all summer. In June when the winter solstice comes it will be light enough to read outside at 2am. Crazy! So we have blackout curtains in our rooms to sleep!

This morning around 10:30 all of the kids and summer missionaries did some work around the camp cleaning it up before the first camp gets here. We raked leaves and sticks from 10:30 to about 3:00. The climate up here has zero humidity so it wasn’t too bad working outside all day, no sweat! The weather is around 70 degrees today, which is a warm day for up here! It went by really quick and was a lot of fun.

The camp isn’t a normal summer camp like Look Up Lodge or anything around home, where the camp has their own staff. The only staff we have are the 6 of us summer missionaries and the two families that live here. So most of the camps that come here have their own staff that are cabin counselors and everything like that. However, there are two weeks where we will get to be cabin counselors and be involved a lot with the kids. But mostly our job is to run the camp, clean the cabins and bath houses, cook the meals and clean up the kitchen, and do yard work. We do a lot of behind the scenes, but we’re still able to be involved with the camps during our free time, so we work long hours! (but there’s plenty of daylight for it!)

This Thursday (tomorrow actually) a self serve group of Slavic are going to be here through Saturday. Self serve means they’ll rent out the dining hall and do their own food and services, we just clean up for them. Sherry said that you can hear their worship services/singing sometimes in their native tongue and it’s pretty awesome.

Walter and Sherry are at the airport all night waiting on Thomas and Rebecca’s flights to come in so Cierra, Will, and I ordered a pizza and we’re having a movie night. The Book of Eli, which I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. We’re at Sherry and Walters house with their dog Bailey, a 9 year old brittany spaniel who is blind but she’s gorgeous and super sweet!

I will say this about Alaska, the weather is perfect, the view is awesome(you can pretty much see the snowy mountains anywhere), and there’s tons of taxidermy places(we passed about 6 yesterday)!

Needless to say, I’m super excited about this summer!

Alaska bound!

So this summer I have the amazing opportunity to serve as a summer missionary through the North American Mission Board in Wasilla, Alaska!

I'll be working at LaVerne Griffin Youth Recreational Camp [http://www.lgyrc.org] from May 24 through August 13. LGYRC is a ministry of the Chugach Baptist Association. The camp is located just north of Wasilla, Alaska. The purpose of the camp is to help expose children, youth and adults to the word of God and God's love through a relaxed, fun and safe atmosphere.

Summer missionaries are a critical part of the camp's ministry. I will have the opportunity to be a part of all aspects of the camp ministry (daily routine cleaning and maintenance, food preparation, serving and clean-up, serving as cabin counselors, daily devotion time with staff and so much more).

As I prepare for this summer, I just ask you to be in prayer for these things:
-that it would be a Christ-focused and Christ-centered summer
-for the camp's witness and ministry
-for the camp's staff & the other summer missionaries I will be working alongside of
-for the campers that will be there during the summer, that their hearts would be open to the gospel if they are not already a believer, and for a better understanding of the gospel for those that are already believers.
-flexibility to be the most efficient worker I can be to the camp
-just for physical, emotional, & mental strength because working at a camp all summer is not for the faint of heart!

I will try to update this blog during the summer with specific ways you can be praying & updates on how the summer is going. & also, plenty of pictures :)

man this past week flew by! we were so busy the entire week, so i fell behind on updating this blog, but i'll type an overview of the week & try not to make it too long!

Overview from Boston:
God really broke my heart for Boston and people who don't know Him during this week. One thing we were able to do Monday through Friday was volunteer at the boys & girls club in Medford each afternoon for 3 hours. Because we were there consistently all week we really got to build relationships with the kids. We would spend time with the same kids each day and it was just great & probably my favorite part about our week.

Handing out the bars and gum at the T stops was an amazing experience too. Just seeing people with the world on their shoulders and grief in their eyes... when they accept what we were giving you could just see on their face that it really did brighten their day.
This one lady I got to talk to for a little bit and she just thanked me so much for the bar & shared that she was having a bad week and I told her that I hoped it would get better and her face just lit up and she responded that it would. Stuff like that.. simple enough... just awesome. A few people on our team got to have some in depth conversations at their stops which was a blessing to hear about!

Some of the different days during the week:
On Tuesday night I got the opportunity to help babysit the Millers three children so they could go out on a date night. Their kids are so precious. The little girl is 7, they've only been in Boston for about 9 months, and because she goes to school she's already dropping her R's like crazy. I'm really glad we were able to help the Millers out in that way.

On Wednesday night I went back to the Millers for their community group. I just think it's awesome that Redemption Hill invited us to their small groups during the week. There were about 5 or 6 people there that night from Redemption Hill and 5 people from our team & everyone was just open about questions and vulnerable and genuine about struggling through things, and so I'm really glad we were able to go to the small group. It really made me feel like I was connected to Redemption Hill more, because we met people in the church body instead of just the staff.

On Thursday morning I was in the group that went to Daybreak Pregnancy Center and the guys helped paint the new room for performing ultrasounds and the girls helped with mailouts. We started this pretty intense system and got it done pretty fast. So with our extra time we got to explore Boston a little bit. We walked around in Boston Common and a graveyard across from the center where Samual Adams is buried. That was really neat, I love history, & it was the first time the whole week we got to actually explore. Most everyone got a free night during the week to go downtown and experience Boston, but I ended up doing something every night so this was my first chance to explore the city.
One thing I loved about the way Jon and Tanner approached it was that they said work hard when we're working but play hard when you have free time. They encouraged us to explore the city, go into local ice cream and pastry shops and engage the workers and customers. So we got to experience Boston a lot more than you normally would on a "mission trip" which I absolutely loved because they wanted us to fall in love with Boston. and we did.

On Thursday night most of us went to the Veritas (Truth) Forum at Tufts University. It was....interesting. Very intellectual, but I enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to be involved in something on the campus & interact with some of the Tufts students.

Friday afternoon was our last day at the boys & girls club. It was pretty sad, not gonna lie. When the kids realized we were leaving they got sad too, which made me more sad. A few of the little girls made us a picture saying they loved us. This one girl Jennifer who I spent time with all week made me a necklace during craft time and wrote me a little note saying to come back. Even though it was sad to leave, I'm really glad we got to do the club every day during the week. It was more intentional & we really did get to build those relationships. In a way I'm glad that I saw the kids being sad that we were leaving because it means that we meant something to them & we touched their lives.

Friday night we all went out to eat at PF Changs where Jon works (all the pastors at Redemption Hill are bivocational) as a last night all together (Renewal team & Mt Vernon team) which was also sad. but Christine, one of the staff at boys & girls club, met us there for dinner, so that was really really awesome. Katie and Erin really connected with her so I'm glad she was able to join us for our last night in town.

The Mt Vernon team left early Saturday morning. Even though there was about 10 Renewal team members and 4 Mt Vernon team members, I really do think that the Mt Vernon folks got close to all of us. Our team dynamics as a whole were just perfect. I don't think it could've been a better fit.

So on Saturday we went to Quincy Market & got a few things to remember Boston by (I also got a few things from Tufts while we were on campus) and to remember to pray for the city, Redemption Hill, Tufts, etc. and we walked on the Freedom Trail a little bit. saw Old North Church and Paul Revere's House.

and then we left for the airport ): but I don't think that's gonna be the last time in Boston for any of us!

Monday, March 7, 2011

we got to Boston pretty early Saturday afternoon after waking up at 3am to get to the airport. we took it easy on Saturday and just had an orientation and discussed Boston, Redemption Hill church, what the spiritual climate is like in the city, and other things to know to prepare for the week.

on Sunday we worshipped at Hope church where we're staying for the week. then we went around Medford and Tufts University doing some prayer walking. most of the city feels really townsy but the city is so spread out so its a nice mix. while we were walking around we stopped at a Dunkin Donuts and a Bostonian couple sat down at the table I was at. as soon as I started talking they asked where I was from so I got to tell them what we were doing in the city and tell them about Redemption Hill and it was really neat. they seemed pretty interested so that'd be cool if they ended up visiting some Sunday and got plugged in.

today we woke up at 5am to go to different T stops and hand out granola bars and cards about Redemption Hill. the stop I was at was right in front of a community college & there was a ton of traffic. we ran out of our 300 bars in about 20 minutes. people were very receptive and nice, but most in a rush to get to class, so we didn't have many conversations.
